2021 IMYM Epistle Preliminary Draft

Revised Minute of Support for Truth & Healing Commission
Several Friends have worked on revising the proposed minute of IMYM support for a Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policy. Read the revised minute here; it will come for approval by the meeting for business on 6/20.

We had no signups for the 2021 IMYM Quaker Mart, BUT … If you’d like to support the work of Quaker Crafters, consider visiting the online QMart organized by Friends General Conference. There you’ll find Books, Bead Art, Cards & Photography, Fiber Arts & Textiles, Handcrafts, Jewelry, and Personal Care Products – all crafted by Quakers, and including a special section featuring BIPOC Quakes. And start carving, weaving, writing, painting or otherwise crafting for the 2022 IMYM Quaker Mart next year at Fort Lewis College in Durango.

I am not in control.
I am not in a hurry.
I walk in faith and hope.
I greet everyone with peace.
I bring home only what God gives me.
It’s time for us to say goodbye and begin the journey home. What will we take home from this time together? What is it that we have been given during this journey?
Many of the pilgrimage themes remind us that the journey is about receiving rather than getting and taking. The journey is not ours to control. The time is not ours to spend. We cannot bring home what is not ours. “We do not own the world,” is the beginning of the final advice from Britain Yearly Meeting. This is a good reminder. All of our physical and spiritual gifts are on loan.
I studied geology in school, and for a very long time, I would drag rocks home from wherever I went. But after a while, I wondered: Why did I think each rock was mine to drag home? I don’t drag rocks home very often any more.
But on a recent trip to a very large lake, I found a beautiful pebble the shape of the lake with layers like a miniature shoreline. “Oh!” I said, “how perfect! May I take it home?” “Yes,” said the lake, “You yourself wouldn’t last long tumbling in these waters, and you could probably use a bit of lasting beauty. You may borrow it… for now… as long as you pass it on” which I am doing, in these words.
What beautiful pebbles will you bring home from IMYM? What stories? On today’s walk, head back home to where you already are, reflecting on our time together and on what you received along the way.
