The Delegate to Friends Peace Teams serves on the FPT Council, the governing body of this Friends not-for-profit organization.  Founded by Quakers in 1993, FPT is an international organization that partners with local groups to foster peace work in the manner of Friends and to empower individuals with the tools of nonviolence in places where longstanding violence and civil wars have disrupted community.

Membership

One (or more) delegate(s) appointed by the Yearly Meeting.

Terms

Three years renewable.

Delegates Committee

The FPT Delegate is a member of the IMYM Delegates Committee and should work with its Clerk and other members of the Committee to bring timely information to the YM, and to its local, monthly and regional meetings re FPT and its peace work.

Responsibilities of the Delegate include

  1. Along with other members of the FPT Council, seeking God’s will in empowering and promoting FPT’s vision of the active involvement of Friends and other individuals in global peace work.
  2. Participating in the FPT monthly conference calls.
  3. Attending the FPT annual meeting held in various locations of the US.
  4. As nominated by FPT, serving on one of its committees or the working group of one of its initiatives.
  5. Facilitating good communication to the YM and its Friends through various modes, electronic and otherwise.
  6. Representing FPT to the yearly meeting, e.g., by providing an annual written report and making a presentation at the YM annual gathering.
  7. Helping to find spiritual, personnel, financial, and other support for FPT activities.
  8. Review your position description after you have finished your term and send any changes or additions you feel are needed to the Clerk of Procedures Committee.  If you find issues before that send them earlier.

Financial Arrangements

The Yearly Meeting pays the travel expenses of the delegate to attend the FPT annual meeting.  Incidental operating expenditures for clerical supplies, communications, etc., may be submitted to the Treasurer for reimbursement.  The Treasurer should be consulted before incurring unusual expenses.
