Purpose

The Young Adult Friends community is, in essence, a transition group. The intention expressed by young adults was to participate fully in the larger meeting while maintaining our own space for fellowship with Friends in similar stages of life.

Membership

The YAF community is quite fluid, including at times members of the SYF and adult communities. Having an open, loosely defined community can be both a strength and a weakness. We desire to welcome whoever should want to fellowship with us, but we have historically put little effort into actively pursuing young adults who choose not to join us (for example, young adults with children, Senior Young Friends who are YAF age, and newcomers).

Clerk

Chosen from within the group for a two-year term. The duties of the Clerk at this time are defining the roles of the clerk and beginning to craft a vision of what the IMYM YAF community could be year-round.

Goals

It is our desire to maintain ongoing communication in the months between IMYM gatherings in order to support each other, reach out to isolated YAFs and support Monthly Meetings in strengthening their YAF attendance should they desire to do so.

IMYM recognizes a distinct group of Adult Young Friends within IMYM, typically in their 20s and 30s and self-identified as such, who will be represented at Arrangements Committee meetings by their Clerk if they so choose.

Arrangements and Representatives Committees

No official role has been requested by YAF or determined by the Yearly Meeting concerning Arrangements and Representatives Committees.

Financial arrangements

There are no financial arrangements between the YAF and the Yearly Meeting yet.
